At the Trade Deadline 46: The Prowling Cat Cleans Out His Clutter, and I'm Reaping All the Benefits, Part 6

While the majority of The Prowling Cat's recent package was made up of oddball baseball cards, he also included some other things. There were a couple of baseball parallels from recent years and a ten-card sticker set from the Disney animated movie Aladdin.

The movie was released when I was about ten years old, so I watched it a few times over the years. It's been quite a while since my last viewing, however. I wonder if my kids would enjoy it. I don't know much about this sticker release, but it was put out by Panini and appears to be some sort of preview set, as the back of the stickers have a statement announcing an upcoming Aladdin sticker series. They also encourage you to stick these stickers on various things, like lunch boxes and notebooks.

I never really liked Aladdin himself, but I did like Abu the Monkey (who appears on three different cards in this set), Iago, the Genie, and Iago the parrot. Disney's main characters tend to be kind of vain and empty-headed (in my opinion), but many of the sidekicks and secondary characters are free to be entertaining and in many ways more complex and interesting than the headliners.

This was a fun addition to the package, a bit of memorabilia of the big sensations of my youth. Aladdin was everywhere for several years after the movie came out, with spin-off movies / shows and all of the merchandise you could imagine. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Prowling Cat!

  1. Some of those movie sticker sets can be pretty cheesey. Those cards/stickers are rather classy. Must be the gold borders.

    1. Adding some gold foil can class just about anything up. Just ask Donald Trump and his gilded airplane. I saw a video about it, and even the fasteners on the seat belt buckles were covered with gold.
