This Black-Breasted Red Game Cock is the first in a lot of cards I picked up from a guy on a vintage non-sports card forum. This was the only one of the group to be packaged in this type of holder, with the card sort of free-floating in a receptacle that's too big. The rest of the cards in the lot are in holders made for tobacco cards. It also has a serial number that starts with a different number than the rest, so I guess it was graded during a different time in PSA's history.
The card itself is nice and colorful, with a nice watercolor-looking effect in the background. You can really see some of the design cues that go into the modern Allen & Ginter card releases. There is some chipping all around and the corners are rounded and frayed, but I can't be worried about that. These cards are around 125 years old. Vintage card collecting is an entirely different world. I would showcase the back, but the backs on all of these cards are the same. The main difference I noticed between this and the card I showcased previously that had a grade of 3.0 was that the other card had some paper torn off on the back and this one is whole. I would imagine that paper loss on the front would harm a card even more in grading than paper loss on the back, especially if said paper loss affected the image itself.
Me jealous. Me want. Me crying.
ReplyDeleteI knew that joke would pop up eventually. I didn't know when, or where, but I knew it was coming.
ReplyDeleteSomebody had to say it!
