No Contest

I picked up this card a couple weeks back. It's a Cup Chase contest card from 2013 Press Pass. There were 18 cards in the set and if the driver depicted on your card made the Chase, you could redeem your code for a special insert set. If they won the Championship you could get the Grand Prize, which was a special memorabilia card of some kind. I don't know what the prize cards looked like or if they were even made. This Danica Patrick card wouldn't have been a winner anyway. I thought it was a cool-looking card, though. It's a lot darker in the scan than in real life, as pretty much the whole face of the card is foil. Not much else to say about this card. It's cool. I like it. I have to wonder how many new Danica cards I will be able to add to my collection before I run out of affordable options. I'm sure there are plenty, but it's something I think about from time to time. I wish someone would pick up the NASCAR license so we could get cards featuring her with her new sponsor and the associated change in color scheme.

With this post I reach a full month of posting every day for 2016. I've toyed with the idea of trying to get a post per day done for the year, but I have some work stuff coming up later in the year that might keep that from happening unless I really build up a queue of posts. As it stands I have enough drafts in my folder right now to get me halfway through February and plenty more photos in my scan folder. It's just a matter of getting it all processed. I don't really need this blog to turn into a job.

  1. Congratulations! Batting 1.000 for the month is quite the accomplishment. Tonight I'm blogging about that epic autograph you sent me. That post will bring my blogging average to .451. Not quite to your standards, but I'm content.

    1. Well, in trying to get a post out every day I have sometimes sacrificed quality for quantity, and working ahead on my queue sometimes leaves my posts feeling a bit out of date. Tonight I've been writing posts that take me out as far as February 7th. That's a lot of time for things to change. I may try to keep up the pace for as long as I can, but at some point I will hit a wall or get busy enough to justify breaking the streak. It might be better to bat .451 with power than to hit 1.000 on bunts and bloop singles.

  2. Don't think I've ever made it all month like that, well done! I also echo your sentiments about the NASCAR license; you'd think someone would have swooped in by now.

    1. It must be an expensive license or maybe the numbers show that sales weren't very good in relation to the work required to keep drivers, teams, and sponsors all happy. I know they had a pretty dedicated community of collectors, but I don't know how big that community was/is.

  3. Congratulations on the month of blogging, I know I have never made it even close. I like the "Champion" type cards where you win based on an athlete or event, Topps did the Super Teams in baseball and basketball in a couple of their 1990s Stadium Club sets and Upper Deck has had the Predictor cards off and on over the years.

    1. They are fun. The only ones I was ever really exposed to when I was young was the "You Crash the Game" cards from the Collector's Choice line, but I never pulled anyone who came close to hitting the required milestones for redemption.

  4. The perfect month! Congrats, as that is not easy to do. I've tried a few times to have a backlog of posts, but always get sidetracked.

    1. It took a surprising amount of work to keep the streak going, as there were some days when I just didn't feel like blogging. I find that the process works better for me and moves more quickly if I do each part of blog post pre-production in batches. I scan a bunch of cards for photos at one time, I edit photos and load them into posts all at once, and then later I write the posts 4 or 5 at a time when I feel inspiration strike.
