2013 Panini America's Pastime Baseball Josh Reddick Silhouettes Prime

I already had the basic version of this card with a plain grey swatch, but when this Prime version of the card with a big chunk of yellow and green patchwork popped up I had to get it, too. This copy is numbered # 02 / 10. Outside of the numbering, the fabric, and the 'PRIME' designation on the back of the card, this card is the same as the base version. I haven't been watching the A's games much lately as I usually turn on the Astros' games if they are available on MLB.tv, so I don't really have a feel for how Reddick is doing this year. Baseball Reference says he's doing all right statistically, although it seems like kind of a wasted effort on an Oakland team that isn't really going anywhere so far on the season. There are still a lot of games left to play, so maybe they will heat up as the summer goes on. The Angels are creeping up on the Astros, and I have to wonder if Houston has what it takes to close the season out on top of the division.

  1. With the second wildcard and their recent run, the A's won't be out of the race anytime soon. Which is bothersome considering how other teams could really use Zobrist, Clippard and Kazmir.

That said, awesome patch card. I love how Panini opted to use a pic of Reddick's sunglasses resting on his hat so the logo less cap seems a lot more natural.

    1. Yes, it will be hard for Oakland to get back in it, but they aren't really so far behind that it is impossible. All they need is one good run while the other teams tread water or regress. There are just a lot of other teams that they have to bypass to get there. The postseason probability calculator on MLB.com gives them a 9% chance at the postseason right now.

This is a pretty good-looking card considering the lack of logos and licensing. Panini sometimes gets it right when it comes to distracting the viewer from the fact that the players might as well be dressed in their pajamas.

  3. Now that's a logo-less card I'd add to my collection. As a die-hard A's fan... I don't have high hopes for them. They've actually been playing really well as of late... but they've lost way too many 1-run games. Plus their bullpen and fielding has been terrible this season. With that being said... as long as they don't trade Gray... I'll be happy.

    1. Yeah, I was listening to the Astros broadcast the other day and they were talking about the division. They mentioned the A's record in 1-run games. The average record for the division in 1-run games is 12-14, and the A's are at 7-22. That alone pretty much accounts for their current spot in the rankings.
