I picked up this card last month because I saw it and I thought it was cool. Sometimes I wonder if there is a group of collectors out there who spend their time 'enforcing' prices on eBay. Like they don't really collect anything specific, but if they see a card going cheaper than they think it should be worth they bid it up to an acceptable level. Or maybe they are disgruntled former collectors of a player and can't bear to see a card sell for less than they paid for their copy of it. I've probably been guilty of that last one a time or two.
This card wasn't a case of that, though, it just happens to be something I was thinking about today. This is a 2014 Panini Immaculate Collection Immaculate Hitters relic card. In 2014 this would have been a coveted jersey number serial number, but he gave up the number 16 to Billy Butler when 'Country Breakfast' signed on with the A's for 2015. Now he wears the number 22 on his jersey. This card features a nice swatch with some bits of patchwork and the full serial number is # 16 / 20. My Reddick collection has kind of fallen by the wayside lately as I've been pulled in other directions. I'm still a fan, though, and it's nice to add a card here and there when a chance comes up. There are still a few cards I need for that 2013 Josh Reddick Topps Super Rainbow I'm working on, so I still scan the listings pretty regularly for his cards. There's actually a printing plate that would fill a spot in that collection up on eBay right now, but the sticker price is a bit higher than I can stomach at the moment. I may come around eventually and pay the price, or it will disappear back into the darkness and I'll wonder every so often what ever became of it.
There are times when I know I'm not going to win a card I want (deep down I wish it gets overlooked, but theres ALWAYS that one guy watching), but I bid anyways and consequently boost the final price. I sometimes wonder if it's reckless or if it's a way of retaining value in the secondary sports card market...who knows.
ReplyDeleteI think it's natural to at least put a bid out there and hope that it sneaks through with you as the winner. It rarely works out that way, but it's something to do. And I think more often than I want to admit I throw bids out there to make sure whoever does win the card pays an appropriate (by my reckoning) price for it.
DeleteBeautiful patch. I'm hoping Reddick has another solid season in Oakland. He's definitely one of the bigger names in their lineup.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if the A's should be happy or sad that he's one of their bigger names. I'm all in on Billy Burns this year on my fantasy teams. I also hope that Reddick and Billy Butler can be productive this season. I like a lot of the A's players.
DeleteI ummm hate the A's as any good Rangers fan would, but that is a nice patch.
ReplyDeleteI'm an Astros fan first, but I like most of the AL West teams. I will root for them as long as they are 1) not playing the Astros and 2) the Astros are in first place.
